REFASHIONED FASHION

Who would have thought that those burgeoning bundles of thrift shop-bound ties and scarves could undergo a creative transformation and assume such a fashionable second life? Well, “tONGUE tIED”, a Chicago design enterprise, specializes in forging new life into those time weary, forgotten treasures. From castoff ties, scarves, ascots, suspenders, bows and buttons, tONGUE tIED founder, Brooke Costello, “respirits” these heirlooms into chic and stylish, eco-friendly accessories for your head, neck, shoulders arms and waist.

Costello meticulously sources gently-worn, second-hand beauties through the many vintage shops that dot the typical urban landscape. Part of the adventure is imagining the storied histories of the ties’ past lives before coming to rest on the ever-increasing racks lining the hallways, nooks and crannies of her Edgewater Chicago home. Here, they are uniquely assembled and spun into extraordinary, lush, one of a kind totes, togs and treasures, soon to begin a second-life journey.
